Tour de France 2014 - Le Grand Départ Yorkshire
Agency: WRG Creative Communication
Client: Leeds City Council
Location: Yorkshire
Date: 19th May - 27th July 2012
Role: Production Manager on Radio Communications
The challenge set was to turn the UK’s largest county into a safe and successful stage for the Grand Départ. Our remit for the project was traffic management, security stewards, radio communications across each stage (200km radius), crowd barriers, onsite medical response and public toilets to serve up to five million spectators across Yorkshire for Stage 1 and 2. Everything that the race required — including more fencing than was available in the British Isles — we helped to procure.
We were based at Leeds City Council in the Town Hall for 3 months prior to setup and based at Amber Control at The North Yorkshire Police Training Facility in Wakefield during the race.
One of the highlights was in between Stage 1 and 2 when two hundred kilometres of fencing (on both sides of the road!) was cleared and redeployed of in just eight hours.
